Championship battle gains momentum

The end of the season draws steadily nearer as does the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship decision. Mario Farnbacher and the Meyer Shank Racing team have just three races left on the calendar before heading for the VIRginia International Raceway race on 23 to 25 August. Together with teammate Trent Hindman, the Meyer Shank Racing driver tops the season’s standings with 209 points from seven races. There’s no doubt about their prime goal at the Michelin GT Challenge on the VIR – defending the title!

After seven rounds of the season, the Acura duo are first in the standings with 209 points – 26 points ahead of the runners-up. “Our primary focus is on winning the championship and with just three races to go, every point counts”, says Farnbacher. “Driving the Acura NSX GT3 in Virginia last year wasn’t so easy, but we’ll get the best possible result out of the weekend and hopefully extend our lead.”

Farnbacher’s last success at the VIRginia International Raceway was in 2018, when after a very exciting and exacting race together with Katherine Legge, he secured third place in the Meyer Shank Racing Acura. Aim of the race was to support the British driver in the title fight and thanks to the good points haul Legge was within striking distance of the championship lead two races before the end of the season.

The eighth round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season starts on Sunday, 25 August, at 13:35 local time (19:35 CEST) and lasts 2:40 hours. Official live stream and live timing services are available on the IMSA website free of charge.
