A finale with a double podium finish: Mario Farnbacher’s debut season in the International GT Open ended with two third place finishes in Barcelona. After two victories and a total of four podium results, the German from Ansbach secured eighth place in the highly competitive GT series’ driver standings.
Mario Farnbacher scored once again in the seventh and last race weekend of the season. Starting from the fourth row, the Franconian and his brother Dominik Farnbacher fought their way steadily forwards in Saturday’s race. “Things were very turbulent again, but I kept out of trouble as well as I could”, recalls the 25-year-old. “Although I had big problems with the tyres towards the end of the race, I managed to finish third.”
The 25-year-old also delivered a very strong performance in the Sunday race and after an impressive start, pushed past a total of five cars and took the first corner in third position. For the rest of the race, the two brothers remained with the frontrunners and finally finished in third place.
The finale on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya meant the end of a very eventful season marked by ups and downs for Mario Farnbacher. Highlights definitely include the two race victories in Estoril, Portugal, and Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. But setbacks such as Monza, were also part of the Franconian’s premiere year. Mario Farnbacher finishes eighth in the overall International GT Open classification.
“Despite all the highs and lows, we can still be very satisfied with our season,” says Mario Farnbacher. “We started from scratch with the new car and were faced with a big challenge. Nevertheless, we succeeded in achieving several top positions. Thanks go to the whole team for the great work and to our partners and fans for their support.”
