From 14th – 17th March 2018, Mario Farnbacher will be competing in the prestigious 12 Hours of Sebring race for the sixth time. The young man from Ansbach takes the wheel again for the Michael Shank Racing with Curb-Agajanian team and will be driving an Acura NSX GT3. After satisfactory tests, Farnbacher has firmly set his sights on a third win in the endurance classic.
Mario Farnbacher’s race in Sebring will be the second of three races for the Michael Shank Racing team in the 2018 American endurance championship. During the promising test drives, the team was able to significantly improve the Acura NSX GT3’s pace. “Sebring is a tough place. It’s a legendary circuit and a classic on the race calendar. The manufacturers, and also the drivers do their best to assert themselves on the demanding track. We’ve done a lot of tests and improved the Acura, which holds the road very well and I’m looking forward to driving for Michael Shank Racing again”, says the 25-year-old.
Farnbacher describes the Sebring International Raceway as his favourite track. He has scored two wins out of five starts there and knows from extensive past experience how challenging the circuit is. “It’s not enough to have a good car”, the German explains. “The Balance of Performance can tip the scales here between victory and defeat. However, it’s also important to drive with your head and mind and keep out of the bustle, to be able to really step on the gas during the last hours. You can only win a place on the podium, if you use a perfect strategy for going easy on the car and all the material over the entire 12 hours. My aim is yet again this year to ride ahead as the winner.”
The second race of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is scheduled for Saturday 17th March on the former military airfield in Sebring, Florida. Start is at 10:30 local time. The race can be followed online on Livestream.
