Heading to Canada in high spirits

Victory in Watkins Glen is not even a week old, but Mario Farnbacher’s attentions are already turning to the fifth round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship from 5 to 7 July. The Acura duo of Farnbacher and Trent Hindman lead the championship going into the next race in Bowmanville, Ontario, with 119 points. The pair will be looking to extend their 16-point advantage at the weekend with Meyer Shank Racing.

“The track near Toronto is a very challenging circuit, but in the past I have run well there,” said Farnbacher. “Our top priority is obviously reinforcing our championship lead and ideally extending the gap to the rest of the field.”

Farnbacher last competed at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park back in 2016. The German began the weekend well, securing pole position for Alex Job Racing. However, the race ended in retirement for Farnbacher and his teammate Alex Riberas. In 2014, the then-Porsche driver also raced in Canada. Third position in GTD class in qualifying promised much for the weekend. In the end Farnbacher and his teammate Ian James crossed the line in sixth place and collected important points in the championship battle.

The race in Bowmanville will take place on Sunday, 7 July, at 13:05 local time (19:05 CEST). The day before, the qualifying starts at 11:35 (17:35 CEST). Both sessions can be followed on the IMSA livestream.
