Together with Racers Edge Motorsports and Ashton Harrison, Mario Farnbacher was at the start of the GT World Challenge America’s fourth weekend from 22 to 24 July. Ranking third in the standings, the Acura works driver travelled to Watkins Glen with his teammate and focused on making a good points haul. Despite a few complications, the end of the weekend produced another podium.
“Obviously, we’re pleased about the podium result, but a few points slipped through the net in the first race. Which was annoying too”, says Farnbacher, summing up the weekend.
What does the Ansbach-born driver mean by that? The duo in the Acura NSX GT3 started from tenth on the grid in Saturday’s race and managed to move significantly forwards in the course of the race. “Ashton’s start was super, and we fought our way to the lead in our class. I’m sure we could have won”, the 30-year-old commented. However, tyre damage finally dashed all hopes of a triumph.
The Racers Edge Motorsports team didn’t give up though. Fighting spirit and a good tyre management saw Farnbacher and Harrison moving from eighth on the grid to an overall class third in the second race, which also meant second position in the Pro/Am category.
“We kept a sharp eye on our tyres in the second run. That cost us a bit of performance, but it was necessary if we didn’t want to exit again. So, this time round we reached our goal and collected some vital championship points, which was the most important issue”, Farnbacher went on to explain.
Next step in the GT World Challenge America is from 19 to 21 August on the Road America, where races nine and ten of the season are scheduled.
