Farnbacher celebrates a double win at Road America

Mario Farnbacher competed in the fifth round of the GT World Challenge America from 19to 21 August. The Acura works driver stood on the grid of the highly traditional race circuit Road America in Wisconsin together with Ashton Harrison and Racers Edge Motorsports and the duo clinched two wins in the Pro-Am category.

“The signs were promising right from the start. Our free practice proved we can ride at the front and race results confirmed this. We also took a step forward in the championship. That was so important. In addition, we claimed the team’s 100th victory.”, the 30-year-old explained after the season’s tenth round.

The Acura duo had already shown what they were made of in the Saturday race. An accident occurred in the race’s initial phase, but teammate Harrison kept out of trouble and worked her way forwards to second position in the Pro-Am class, when she handed over the wheel. Farnbacher continued the good work and finally went on to secure the first class victory of the weekend.

The Racers Edge Motorsports team also had all reason to be happy with the second race too. Starting from an overall third, the Ansbach-born driver led the class and steadily pulled away from his category rivals. After the driver change, everything stayed under control with Harrison taking the Acura NSX GT3 over the finish line in an overall third place, making the double victory in the Pro-Am standings in Elkhart Lake a perfect one.

“It’s the maximal haul, more would have been impossible. We continually improved over the weekend and took a giant leap forward in the championship. The top 3 in the rankings are only separated by four points, so nothing is decided yet. We’ll attack again at the last two weekends”, Farnbacher continued.

The second-to last GT Word Challenge America race weekend is scheduled for the 23to 25 September in Sebring. The finale follows early October in Indianapolis.
