The next round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship from 28 to 30 June in Watkins Glen is just around the corner for Mario Farnbacher and his team Meyer Shank Racing. Together with Justin Marks, championship leaders Farnbacher and Trent Hindmann travel to New York State with a four point lead.
Farnbacher has a clear goal – expanding the lead and preferably with a victory on the fast circuit. The 27-year-old narrowly missed the podium in 2018, when he finished fourth in the 3GT Racing team’s Lexus RC F GT3. This year, he intends to finally clinch the jump to the top step.
“Obviously, the Detroit race was frustrating, especially as we repeatedly had to deal with minor problems throughout the season”, Farnbacher explains. “We could do with a smooth weekend in Watkins Glen, where we’ll definitely be aiming at hitting back and securing a victory!”
It’s not the driver’s first Watkins Glen race. He’s already driven in New York State with Porsche, Mercedes, Acura and Lexus and 2016 was his most successful year. After pole and a thrilling battle for the podium, the Alex Job Racing team came in third.
Track action starts on Friday with the practice sessions. The Qualifying is schedule on Saturday, at 11:35 local time (17:35 CEST) and the race starts on Sunday, at 9:45 (15:45 CEST).
