At the third round of the VLN Endurance Championship Mario Farnbacher had even two reasons to celebrate: At his 24th birthday the German together with his brother Dominik claimed the victory in the SPX-Class of the race. In the overall classification the two brothers covered 13th position in the strong field of 160 cars.
Only two weeks after his prestigious victory with the new Porsche 911 GT3 R in Laguna Seca (USA) Mario Farnbacher claimed another success. “Thanks to the entire team for a fantastic job”, the youngster was grateful to his squad. “After we had some bad luck in the VLN in the last races we are quite satisfied with the result of today.”
After a difficult qualifying session, in which the two brothers had to settle with position 18, Mario Farnbacher in the race convinced with a strong hunt through the field. Lap by lap he managed to close the gap to the top 10. “Especially at the beginning I battled through the field quite easy and without any problems. During the initial laps I could overtake a number of opponents. In the middle of the race we even covered ninth rank”, the German rewound the race once again.
The fans around the circuit saw a close fight in the SPX-Class for prototypes between the Farnbacher-Lexus and the Ford GT, run by the team Alzen Racing. Both squads battled for the class lead in the course of the whole distance. Finally the two brothers at the wheel of the Lexus had the better end and snatched the victory after 28 laps.
The next race for Mario Farnbacher takes place on the Nürburgring again. The German had a last-minute obligation to compete in the 24 hours race taking place from May 26th to 29th. Farnbacher will join the driver line-up of a Porsche of the Black Falcon Team.
