Technical issues put paid to Farnbacher’s chances at season finale

The Farnbacher Racing crew had been full of confidence going into the final round in their Lexus RC F GT Prototype on the back of their historic win at the previous VLN round. But the season finale of the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft ended in disappointment for Mario Farnbacher and his team even before it had even started.

“This isn’t how we imagined the final race weekend of the season,” said Mario Farnbacher after the qualifying setback. Despite putting in some competitive lap times in the morning, the 24-year-old and his team Farnbacher Racing were unable to start the race due to a technical issue on the car. The Lexus RC F GT Prototype suffered damage to the drivetrain, which could not have been repaired in time for the afternoon’s race.

“It’s a real shame that this problem cost us a place on the starting grid, but that’s sometimes how things go in motorsport,” Farnbacher added. “Unfortunately we were unable to continue the planned testing programme with our development car. But it’s not the end of the world if these kinds of problems come up now, as it means we can go into next season in better shape. We have learned a great deal about the car this year and I cannot wait for 2017.”
