Seven scores in seven races: After the Spa 24-hour race, Mario Farnbacher headed to Wisconsin for the next race of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season. And although the Meyer Shank Racing team didn’t make a podium finish this time, a fifth place meant valuable championship points for the Ansbach native and his teammate Trent Hindman.
“That was a tricky weekend. Right from the start, we had to struggle with the car and the track. Obviously we were aiming for a podium finish after the recent top results, but we simply didn’t have the pace. We’re still content with fifth place though”, Farnbacher concludes.
With four more rounds of the 2019 season to come, the Meyer Shank Racing team had already focused on collecting points before the Road America race. Start driver Hindman took off from a fifth in qualifying and produced a solid race performance, maintaining a continuous top 6 position. Farnbacher took the wheel of the Acura NSX GT3 #86 after 1:37 hours, delivered a flawless stint and saw the checkered flag in fifth place. Thanks to 26 more points, the Acura driver pair tops the tables with 209 points.
“Of course, it’s a pity we couldn’t reinforce our standings lead, but at least we secured some important points on Sunday. That’s our key priority for the championship”, said Farnbacher. “Now, we’re off to Virginia, where we have a new opportunity to extend the gap to the rest of the field.”
Farnbacher has time to take a short breather before the next IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race towards the end of the month. The Michelin GT Challenge is scheduled from 23 to 25 August on the VIRginia International Raceway.
