All eyes on victory in Detroit

The next round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship from 31 May to 1 June has a special meaning to Mario Farnbacher. The Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix Presented by Lear at the Raceway at Belle Isle Park has been the scene of some outstanding performances and victories for the Acura driver in the past.

Farnbacher’s most-recent success at the Raceway at Belle Isle Park came in 2018, when the 27-year-old secured victory for Meyer Shank Racing together with Katherine Legge after an exciting race-long battle in the Acura NSX GT3 – helping the team in their fight for the championship. His first win in Detroit came in 2015, when the Ansbach-born driver took victory in a Porsche 911 GT America together with Ian James. The keys to success that year were the excellent strategy by the Alex Job Racing team and the strong performance from both drivers in difficult conditions. And one year before, Farnbacher secured his first podium: Thanks to a perfectly timed pit stop and a brilliant recovery drive from Farnbacher and Ian James, the German-British pairing earned second place.

After finishing second in the final round at Mid-Ohio, Farnbacher and his teammate Trent Hindman enter the race weekend as the GTD championship leaders in their #86 Acura NSX GT3. The pair and their team Meyer Shank Racing have only one aim in Detroit: Standing on the top step of the podium and expanding their 84-point championship lead.
