Extensive 2020 programme for Mario Farnbacher

Mario Farnbacher has a tightly packed racing calendar in 2020. Again, the Ansbach-born native will be driving the #86 Acura NSX GT3 EVO for the Meyer Shank Racing team in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. In 2019, the 27-year-old and the Ohio-based crew topped the GTD-class. 2020 sees him with a new teammate, Matt McMurry.

Season opener is the Rolex 24 at Daytona (23 to 26 January) and the duo will be supported by Shinya Michimi and Jules Gounon. Farnbacher narrowly missed out on the top 3 with a fourth place in 2019 and now in 2020 he aims to give the GTD-class podium another crack.

“This year’s IMSA field is totally jam-packed”, says Farnbacher looking ahead to the approaching weekend at the Daytona International Speedway. “Our preparatory tests were extremely promising and we’re well-positioned for our upcoming assignments. We’re excited about the Daytona race. It’ll definitely be a thrilling one!”

In addition, the Franconian will be taking to the track in 2020 with Honda Pro Racing and JAS Motorsport in the Intercontinental GT Challenge. Together with Dane Cameron and Renger van der Zande, he’ll be driving the Honda NSX GT3 EVO for the Honda Racing Team JAS on 2 February at the season’s premiere – the Bathurst 12 Hour in Australia.

“I’m incredibly proud of representing Honda in the Intercontinental GT Challenge. Last year, we proved we can keep pace with the fastest GT3s and this season, we’ll be building on that to take another step forwards”, the endurance stalwart explains.

The 2020 IMSA WeatherTech Championship season starts on Thursday, 23 January, at 10:05 local time (16:05 CET) with Practice 1. Green flags fly for the Rolex 24 at Daytona on Saturday, 25 January, at 13:35 local time (19:35 CET). The race will be broadcast as a livestream on the official website.
