Next stop: Lime Rock Park

The first half of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship has been a promising one for Mario Farnbacher. The Meyer Shank Racing driver has secured one race win and two further podiums in the first five races of the season and leads the championship by 19 points.

The 27-year-old is set to kick off the second half of the season in Lime Rock Park. Despite having raced at the circuit in Lakeville, Connecticut before, Farnbacher has yet to finish on the podium on the tight and twisty circuit.

“It’s definitely going to be an exciting weekend,” Mario Farnbacher said. “It’s the shortest track on the calendar and also extremely narrow. Overtaking is no easy task because there’s always a great deal of traffic. That makes our pit stops and strategy all the more important.”

Farnbacher has been to Lime Rock Park three times already. He last competed in Lakeville with the 3GT Racing team in 2018. Back in 2016, the then Porsche driver raced together with Ian James for the Alex Job Racing team. The pair were on course for a strong podium finish, but a collision in the closing stages dashed their hopes of tasting the podium champagne. In his first appearance at Lime Rock Park, it was another story of what could have been for Mario Farnbacher. In the 2014 race, the team suffered a spin towards the end of the race and lost a number of positions as a result. Despite a frantic recovery drive, they crossed the line in an agonising fourth, but still gathered important points for the championship battle.

Fans can watch the Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park online. The official live stream and live timing services are available on the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship website free of charge. The race starts on Saturday, 20 July at 15:10 local time (21:10 CEST).
