Mario Farnbacher secured second place in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in Mid-Ohio and the championship lead. Together with his team mate Trent Hindman, the Acura driver was one of the fastest on the track and the duo only narrowly missed a victory on the challenging circuit.
“I’m not really happy”, Mario Farnbacher summarized. “A second and top of the table are great, but we definitely would have deserved a victory. The Meyer Shank Racing squad did a fantastic job and provided us with a rocket with which we could have won.”
After a qualifying under problematic conditions and with only a tenth on the grid, Farnbacher and Hindman nevertheless delivered a strong race performance and fought their way forwards to take the lead. However, bad luck during a yellow phase cost them the top position and paved the way for a furious final spurt.
The last race laps were dominated by an exciting duel between Farnbacher and Jack Hawksworth in the Lexus. Although the Franconian piled pressure on his opponent, he wasn’t able to pass and finally finished in second place, just a few tenths of a second in arrears.
Mario Farnbacher’s next race is scheduled for 31 May to 1 June at the Belle Isle Circuit in Detroit. The US city circuit is one of the Acura driver’s favorite tracks and in previous years he’s clinched several wins and podiums there.
