Reshuffling the cards

Mario Farnbacher starts the 2017 season facing a completely new challenge. After changing to the AMG-Team Riley Motorsports, the race car driver from Ansbach begins the new year in a new cockpit. So he has a lot to learn by the end of January, in order to be well-prepared for the 24 Hours of Daytona.

It was only a short winter break for Mario Farnbacher, before the turn of the year saw him behind the wheel again and the “Roar before the Rolex24” gave the 24-year-old a first chance to test his new vehicle, the Mercedes-AMG GT3. “At first, I needed a while to get used to the new car”, Farnbacher reported. “But when things clicked into place, I felt more and more relaxed with it and my lap times improved steadily.”

Preparations for the 24 Hours of Daytona are in full swing and Mario Farnbacher still has quite a lot to learn. However, the new team’s good vibes make the Bavarian feel confident: “It didn’t take long for me to feel at home with the crew, I get on fantastically with my new colleagues and we have a great team relationship.”

After the test in Daytona, Mario Farnbacher is now focusing fully on the coming highlight. “Last year I was within a hair’s breadth of getting the title. This year, getting it is top of my list”, said the unerringly ambitious driver and continued: “And Daytona is where we’ll start paving the way. The first laps proved the car’s promising potential.”

The endurance classic starts on Saturday, 28th January at 20:30 German time and ends 24 hours later. Mario Farnbacher’s first race in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 will be live streamed by imsa.com.
