Season opener for Mario in Portugal

After a superb start to the year in Daytona and a victory in Sebring, Mario Farnbacher kicks off his European season at the end of April. The German, together with his family team Farnbacher Racing, is set to take on a brand-new challenge, competing in the first round of the International GT Open at the Circuito do Estoril.

Together with his brother Dominik Farnbacher, the Bavarian is to race in the International GT Open for the first time, taking on some of the best drivers in Europe. Beside the new opponents, the race track is also a challenge for Farnbacher at the season opener, as the Circuito do Estoril is completely new to him.

“The International GT Open will be a special experience for me”, says the 24-year-old driver. “All the tracks on the calendar are new to me, with the exception of Spa-Francorchamps. Estoril is one of the most demanding circuits the series visits, and it comes right at the beginning of the year. However, my brother has raced there before and has been able to give me some valuable advice in my preparations for the race.”

The strong field of drivers this season is another challenge this season. “The whole series is high in quality. A number of former Formula 1 drivers like António Félix da Costa or Tiago Monteiro are on the entry list and will not make the first races easy for us.”

The first race of the season starts on Saturday, April 29th at 16:15 CET. The International GT Open website has a live stream of the action from Portugal (www.gtopen.net).
